Meet Wonderland's Groomer
During her first week of high school, owner Laura Acquavella walked into a neighborhood dog grooming salon and asked for a job sweeping up. That little shop in Chicago did more than give her a job sweeping. They taught her the trade of dog washing, and more importantly they taught her that you can love what you do for a living.
After eight years of working at two grooming salons, while attending school, Laura received her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. Afterwards, she briefly worked in law, and then joined Federal service where she stayed for almost 20 years. During this time, Laura never lost her love for grooming, and was often heard in the halls, saying "I'm going to be a dog groomer when I retire." Rather than wait for retirement, Laura became a certified dog groomer and graduated, with high marks, from the New York State Board of Education certified program at the Golden Paws Pet Styling Academy in Clifton Park, New York in 2013. Soon after graduating, Laura opened Wonderland Grooming as a home-visit mobile grooming service. She also worked as the head groomer at a local dog boarding facility, and volunteered her grooming services to recently rescued dogs to prepare them for adoption.
In August 2017, after almost 30 years, Laura's dream became a reality when she left the Federal sector and opened the doors to her store front, Wonderland Grooming Salon and Self-Serve Spa, in Saratoga Springs, New York. She is beyond excited and can't wait to share her passion of dog grooming with you.
Laura is certified in animal CPR; and she receives continuing education in the areas of dog grooming, dog behavior, dog health, and grooming practices on a yearly basis.
When not grooming, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband, two young girls, and their dog Mustang, who graces the pages of this website.
